Senegal's Plastic Laws

Senegal

Law No 2015-09 of May 04, 2015

Senegal's plastic law bans the production, importation, keeping, distribution, and use of plastic bags above 30 microns.

The law defines plastic bags as plastic bag (sachet plastique): plastic container having, in its upper part, a cut in the form of a strap made from a polyethylene film

The law requires operators in the plastic sector to reduce the quantity of plastic waste by proposing plastic waste management strategies to homes and other users. These strategies could include the collection or return of plastic waste for recycling or elimination.

Users or holders of products contained in plastic containers should deposit or cause the plastic containers to be deposited at designated collection points. The law concludes with penal and financial sanctions to defaulters.
